Mankind prepares to face a threat that's more than meets the eye. The famously bombastic director Michael Bay has given his Transformers franchise an upgrade! For this latest installment, version 4.0 "Transformers: Age of Extinction" available now on Blu-ray, the explosions are bigger, the adversaries more menacing, the sound design more elaborate, but the story... well,it's pretty much the same.

After the extraterrestrial robots nearly destroyed Chicago five years ago, the United States is determined to control their borders and repel the aliens hiding among them. Leader of the good guys, Optimus Prime has become a fugitive, and his band of Autobots an endangered species that is being hunted by a sinister government agency and a mercenary robot named Lockdown. Only with the help of an aspiring engineer played by Mark Wahlberg and his family do our heroes have any hope of preventing the ultimate extinction agenda.

"Transformers: AoE" is the most significant franchise reboot to a major blockbuster and introduces many of the popular "Generation 2" mythology that fans of the Transformers have been expecting. With more than three hours of bonus content, the Blu-ray is ambitiously lifting the veil of secrecy and bringing the audience into the world of the filmmakers that create the mayhem on screen. Cinematically expansive, as only Michael Bay can do it, the movie is little more than a two hour-plus toy commercial, but for anyone who has ever played with a Transformers, these robots in disguise have never carried so much hardware!

Along with an intimate look from the director's own perspective "Transformers: Age of Extinction" also reveals Bay's desire to reboot the look of his heroes and the CGI animation that went into giving all the major players like Bumblebee and Optimus Prime their souped-up looks, to fight their new enemies including Galvatron. The special features also take you into the house of Hasbro to see how the toymakers applied the movie technology to create the latest line of figures based on the film's stars.

If you've followed the franchise then you know what to expect with "Transformers: Age of Extinction." It's worth the combo-pack price just to see the Tyrannosaurus Rex Grimlock finally on your flatscreen:This Autobot legend does not disappoint!

"Transformers: Age of Extinction" is available on Blu-ray, DVD, Combo-Pack with Digital HD download for $24.99
