2 Broke Girls - The Complete Third Season

"2 Broke Girls" may not have the same pull as "The Big Bang Theory" but it's a really fun and comedically complex series. Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs are charming, snarky, and have captured the perfect line of hating-on hipsters while still existing in their culture. Despite being in Los Angeles, this series feels way closer to the authentic struggle-to-survive nature of New York City. The series is also great at staying fresh.

The series seems to be able to consistently switch things up each season. Season 2 featured the girls realizing their dream of a cupcake shop. This season finds them taking on pastry school. Gilles Marini plays the sexy pastry instructor, Mary Lynn Rajskub plays an awkward office manager, and Eric Andre joins the cast as Max's new boyfriend Deke. There's even a cameo but I-guess-she's-not-washed-up Lindsay Lohan. The series ability to stay fresh and new while still have such a rich authenticity is what makes it so amazingly entertaining.

Sadly, however, the DVD special features are insanely light. There is no profile on why the season expanded their world to include yet another job or the addition of new regular cast member Federico Dordei. Instead they just have deleted scenes and a gag reel. The gag reel is great because a live audience really amps up the humor of minor mistakes or major crack-ups. The deleted scenes are tame. There are some alternate takes with really dirty or suggestive jokes which is fun. There's also a lot of random scenes one-off one-liners are cute, for obvious reasons.

This season shows this series still has legs. Sadly, there wasn't much production value thrown to special features. Die-hard fans will want to own the season. But, sadly, there's no inherent draw special feature-wise.
