Giant Butt Plug Erected in Paris Upsets Anti-Gay French Group

An anti-gay marriage, ultra conservative French group is freaking out, saying they're outraged and humiliated over a new art instillation that is supposed to look like a tree but really looks like a 24-foot sex toy.

According to the Daily Mail, American artist Paul McCarthy erected the green inflatable "Christmas tree," above the Place Vendome in Paris. The piece, simply called "Tree," has upset several citizens in Paris, because it resembles a butt plug.

McCarthy created the piece for a contemporary art fair but some want the "tree" to be taken down - especially those who are members of French Spring, a far-right group that opposes same-sex marriage.

The group took to Twitter to express their outrage, posting a picture of the "Tree" and writing: "Place Vendome disfigured! Paris humiliated!" The group added: "This is where your tax dollars are going!"

"Standing at 24.4 meters tall Place Vendome Tree by Paul McCarthy is a thought sculpture specifically for this place in relation to the exhibition Chocolate Factory presented at the Monnaie de Paris, the first major solo exhibition of the artist in the city," the French art site Artistik Rezo said, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper also points out McCarthy this isn't the first sex toy inspired art piece he's made. Back in 2011, he made a pair of clay animatronic sculptures of former President George W Bush having sex with pigs for an exhibition in London.
