Sex Tape
Ken Tasho READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel pair up once again as an undersexed married couple in "Sex Tape." Lambasted by both critics and the public upon its release this past summer, the hard R-rated sex farce gets a second chance on Blu-ray and includes a handful of features exclusive to the high-definition format.
Segel co-writes the raunchy tale of a couple whose sex life used to be constant, until they got married and had kids. In a drunken stupor, they decide to make the sex tape referred to in the title. What they didn't expect is for their friends, colleagues, and family members to get hold of the embarrassing record of their naked antics that goes viral by accident.
A mad chase ensues to retrieve the iPad with the incriminating evidence on it, including a confrontation with Diaz's future boss (played with manic charm by kooky Rob Lowe) and an odd movie ending featuring an uncredited Jack Black, playing the owner of the fictitious YouPorn website. "Sex Tape" has a broad mix of bad jokes that fall flat, while others had me roaring... the centerpiece scene featuring Diaz and Lowe doing drugs together is comedic genius.
Four features are exclusive to the Blu-ray: Five minutes of bloopers and three deleted scenes aren't enough to warrant a viewing. "Line-o-Rama" features alternate lines from key scenes in "Sex Tape." In the unique "Romance Reboot with Dr. Jenn Berman," the VH-1 therapist, offers advice to those sex-starved couples and offers up a step by step action plan. "Capturing the Moment," a scant behind-the-scenes, appears on both the Blu-ray and DVD versions, as does "Meet Hank Rosenbaum," an in-character short featuring Rob Lowe.
