Step Up - All In

Christian Cintron READ TIME: 2 MIN.

The "Step Up" movies are dance porn. The acting may be questionable, the plots laughable, but you just want everyone to hurry up and get to the dancing. The movies do continue to break new ground in what is possible in dance movies. Their genre-defying dance sequences astound, amaze, and continue to raise the bar for the franchise and dance in general. It's no wonder that "Step Up: All In" continues to "bring it."

This film merges the worlds of the franchise in a pretty epic way. It brings together the best dancers, leads, fan favorites from all of the movies, except for the Dewan-Tatums from the first film. Clearly, they must have been busy. The movie delivers on dance in amazing way. The film centers around, you guessed it, a high-stakes dance competition. But it pulls some pretty amazing stunts and reunites the best dancers, which is a great nod to hardcore fans. It also opts for a more realistic look at the world of professional dancers and the struggles they face trying to make a living. Everyone from the cute little girl from Missy Elliot's "Work It" video to the totally dreamy Ryan Guzman from "Step Up: Revolution" are here. Adam Sevani shines in an acting performance you wouldn't expect given his comical character.

The Blu-ray of the film does have copious bonus features. "All-In with the Crew" introduces the various cast members and includes interviews about the film. "Dance Breakdown: The Final Stage" recycles some of the interview footage, but gets more in-depth in the genesis of the idea for this film and bringing the cast together.

There are deleted scenes and commentary as you'd expect. The deleted scenes include some more dance moves which really are part of the fun. The commentary is interesting but doesn't do much to enhance the film. "Clap, Stomp, Slide: The Sounds of the Battle" presents what you think is raw audio of the dance sequence but given the isolated sound its clear a sound team had to work late into the night to match all the clapping, stomping, and breathing to the video. It's a bit of a non-feature.

"Step Up: All In" isn't trying to win any Oscars, but it does continue to deliver hotties dancing in over-the top sequences. This film really does up the ante with a robust cast and some stunts that have to be seen to be believed. Definitely worth checking out!
