ABCs Of Death 2

Ken Tasho READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Another installment of the bizarrely violent anthology series "ABCs of Death" doesn't seem warranted, but here it is anyway. Out on Blu-ray now, "ABCs of Death 2" looks like a carbon copy of its predecessor, albeit with more gore, off-the-wall antics, and macabre riffs. In other words, it's a typical sequel.

For those not in the know, "ABCs of Death" takes every letter of the alphabet, assigns it to an up-and-coming horror genre director, and lets them have free reign as to what to create. As expected, the results are wildly varied. Some installments are just plain gross and insipid, like the segment called "G is for Granddad," where Granddad himself appears full on nude for the audience to see. That's a horror in itself!

"A is for Amateur" begins this 2-hour long train wreck, and it starts out decently enough. We move on to something called "C is for Capital Punishment" (isn't that 2 words?). This five-minute film happens to be the best out of the 26. "F is for Falling" takes an intriguing idea of a woman dangling from a tree due to a parachute mishap, but then the director doesn't know how to resolve it properly. Another slightly recommended story, "D is for Deloused," only shows promise because of its stop animation process.

If you're considering buying this sickly twisted Blu-ray, its special features are above and beyond a typical release. There are so many that they can't be listed; they include behind the scenes and making of certain stories....19 of them in total. Over 26 filmmakers make up an extensive and informative audio commentary, and get recommended while putting your hands over your eyes during viewing.
