Exterminators Of The Year 3000
Ken Tasho READ TIME: 1 MIN.
If a brawny and handsome man named Alien came up to me and told me he wanted to save the world, I'd take notice. This scenario comes up often in Scream Factory's newest retroactive Blu-ray "Exterminators of the Year 3000," a blatant rip-off of any of the superior "Mad Max" films. Alien, played by former model Robert Iannucci, even looks and dresses like Mel Gibson.
In an apocalyptic future there only exist warriors and exterminators in the futuristic and extremely low-budget "Exterminators of the Year 3000." The low water supply makes these fractions fight to the finish for control of the planet. A biker named Alien, along with a young, feisty boy, join forces to battle the exterminators, or those that kill anyone in their way.
Along for the ride is a buxom blonde love interest for Alien, and scads of leather-clad warriors straight out of an early '80s Billy Idol music video. Because this was made in 1983, a cheesy synthesizer score complements an otherwise barren soundtrack. Oh, and then there are the Italian and Spanish actors, all of whom were dubbed in English in post-production.
The hazy and grainy Blu-ray presentation can't be blamed on Scream Factory. Actor Robert Iannucci explains in his interview segment, part of the minimal special features, that "Exterminators of the Year 3000" was shot on the very cheap side, and tells how he almost got screwed out of getting paid. Iannucci also does an audio commentary and two brief TV spots, plus a weird trailer (misspelling the name of the film twice) are included too.
