Horrible Bosses 2
Christian Cintron READ TIME: 2 MIN.
"Horrible Bosses 2" is like an old fashioned sequel. It has a frighteningly similar plot to the first film, all your favorite characters, stunt casting, and even crazier adventures. That being said the day of sequels that don't involve super heroes or big budget special effects aren't necessarily here. Luckily, the bonus features overcompensate for a film that is utterly whelming.
This film finds Jason Bateman, Jason Sudekis, and Charlie Day trying to take on another, you guessed it, horrible boss, Burt Hanson (Christoph Waltz). They try kidnapping his son Rex (Chris Pine) with the help of their crime coach (Jaime Foxx). The plot is a bit predictable and the "extended cut" mostly has a few extra jokes but does tend to feel longer rather than more entertaining. But what's so great is the dialogue isn't formulaic at all. The special features, "Off the Cuff: One-Liners You Didn't See" and "Endless Laughter Guaranteed!" include extensive scenes of improvising on set. You see how wild and filthy the cast will go while experimenting with new jokes. It's especially funny to see Jennifer Aniston play such a wildly inappropriate character with lines memorable for how disgusting they are.
The other bonus features are other made for DVD features that capitalize on the supporting cast. These are funny but do tend to blend together in their recycling of material. "Let the Sexual Healing Begin" includes mock interviews with the actors who play sex addicts in a memorable scene. "It's the Shower Buddy Infomercial" and "Nick Kurt Dale INC: Employee Testimonials" also include in-character interviews with some of the supporting players. They're funny but do drag a bit too long.
"Horrible Bosses 2" doesn't cover new ground and will not blow you away. However, it does harken back to a time when movies were just simple stupid comedies and that was enough. The bonus features showcase the comedic genius of the cast more than the film but that does provide a unique entertainment value.
