Stockholm by Design

There is something for every location and occasion in Stockholm with street chic and smart casual fashions, sleek modern jewelry and gloves that literally fit you like a glove.

Efva Attling
If Stockholm possesses one grand dame of fashion and fabulousness, it is out lesbian jewelry designer Efva Attling. The renowned accessory artisan has been crafting pieces since she was a child, but after being discovered by Eileen Ford, her ambitions turned toward modeling. She returned to her creative roots in 1996 and has since become known for creating designs that express "beauty with a thought."

Attling's Spring 2015 collection is filled with purposeful and sometimes whimsical designs, including the Link a Go-Go bracelet and pendant. "I love to dance and used to be a go-go dancer on TV shows," says Attling. "Let the bracelet dance around your wrist."

In support of LGBT solidarity, Attling recently designed the Rainbow Freedom Pendant, inspired by Emma Green Tregaro's protest to Russia's anti-gay laws at the women's high jump world championship in Moscow. A portion of online sales in the United States supports the Hetrick-Martin Institute. In 2009 Attling married her longtime partner, Swedish pop star Eva Dahlgren, upon the passing of Sweden's gay marriage law.

Nudie Jeans
Launched by Maria Erixon and Joakim Levin, Nudie Jeans has evolved into a globally sought-after denim brand rooted in a sustainable business model that promotes "break-in, repair, reuse, and recycle."

"Nudie Jeans was a dream about not having to compromise," says Erixon. "It was a dream about bringing a consideration for the environment and human rights into every aspect of the production."

The core of Nudie's collection is selvage denim with signature orange stitching that prevents fraying edges. A pair of "Steady Eddies" will set you back $375, but the result is a limited-edition garment made of 18-ounce selvage that is spun, woven and manufactured by Kaihara Mills in Japan. With nearly 120 styles to choose from, denim wearers are sure to find a pair to fit the budget. Regardless of choice, the entire collection is made from 100 percent organic denim that follows a strict code of conduct as outlined by the Fair Wear Foundation, a nonprofit striving to improve working conditions in the textile industry.

Hestra
It's a family affair at this multigenerational glove company, whose bespoke styles have been donning knowing hands for more than 75 years. The Nordic's harsh winters have inspired a popular line of alpine, mountaineering and outdoor gloves, but it is the stunning craftsmanship of their dress gloves that are worth a trip to the Stockholm concept store. It is here where you can be measured and fitted for a pair of custom-made gloves.

Plan on multiple trips as your one-of-a-kind template is created and manufactured prior to a first fitting and final production. Only the highest-grade leathers are used, including peccary from South America, Scandinavian elk, and Ethiopian hair sheep, among others.

WeSC
Launched in 1999 and self-proclaimed as a "street brand for intellectual slackers," WeSC was influenced by skateboarding and snowboarding culture, giving platform to creative designs and concepts not found in traditional retail distribution.

The Spring 2015 collection celebrates WeSC's 15th anniversary as well as coming-of-age in Sweden. Believe it or not, 15-year-olds can legally ride a moped, go to an X-rated movie and even have sex. The women's line incorporates stiff neoprene combined with more fluid materials in pastel shades, while the men's collection celebrates the palette of the Swedish summer in rich blues, greens and reds with a graphic focus on native flora and fauna.

Always in pursuit of unique collaborations, WeSC has also recently partnered with Stereo Skateboards, co-founded by actor Jason Lee. The T-shirt line features '90s photos shot by Tobin Yelland as well riffs on workwear.

J. Lindeberg
Originally conceived as a sportswear brand for golfers in 1996, J. Lindeberg has gone to the dark side with its most recent collection, inspired by the black Arctic Ocean. Leaner silhouettes, biker details and chic rock merge in contemporary designs for both men and women.

For those looking for high-performance wear, this winter's "Camo" collection relies on outerwear technology, bold patterns and luxury textiles that will stand out on the slopes. And for those who prefer to be under par in lieu of under a snowbank, the current golf collection is the amalgamation of J. Lindeberg's signature tailoring and flexible garments - each engineered toward the mechanics of a golf swing.
