Melissa Rivers: My Mother's Death was '100 Percent Preventable'

Melissa Rivers is set to give her first public interview since her mother Joan Rivers died last summer. In a new promo clip from the "Today" show's Matt Lauer, Melissa is shown talking about her mother's hospital stay.
"I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. It ... it becomes very surreal," she said.
The full interview will air on "Today" on Monday. The Huffington Post reports that NBC said Melissa, 47, will also talk about the malpractice suit she filed in January against the clinic where the comedian stayed.
"In my opinion, it was 100 percent preventable," she said in a transcript HuffPo obtained from NBC. When asked what health officials could have done to prevent Joan Rivers' death, Melissa said, "How about paying attention to the vital signs? How about having a properly equipped crash cart?"
At the time of the filing of the suit, Melissa slammed the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic where her mother went for a procedure to check on a raspy throat, fell unconscious and later died at the age of 81.
"The level of medical mismanagement, incompetency, disrespect and outrageous behavior is shocking and frankly, almost incomprehensible, " Melissa said in a statement.
The clinic's doctors and Joan Rivers' own doctor are accused of allowing cell phones into the operating room and to take selfies while the comedian was unconscious.
"What ultimately guided me was my unwavering belief that no family should ever have to go through what my mother, Cooper and I have been through," Melissa said, referring to her son.
