VIDEO: 'Jeopardy!''s 'Kinky Boots' Church Song Answer Goes Viral
EDGE null READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Can the hit drag queen-inspired Broadway musical "Kinky Boots" trace its roots back to judeo-christian liturgical music?
As they would say on TV's "Jeopardy!" the answer is: "What is 'no.'"
It's a rare occurrence when a losing answer on a TV game show gets national media attention. But that's exactly what happened this week when contestant Choyon Manjrekar flubbed in the final round of the popular trivia game show with what could possibly be the funniest wrong answer in the history of the long-running show. The gaffe went viral and was even picked up by TIME and U.S. magazines as well as getting a segment on the "Today Show."
In the Final Jeopardy! round under the category of "Hymns," the question was:
A Christian hymn & a Jewish holiday hymn are both titled this, also the name of a 2009 Tony-nominated musical.
To which Manjrekar answered: "What is 'Kinky Boots?'"
As any Broadway queen can tell you, the answer Alex Trebek was looking for was "Rock of Ages."
Manjrekar, who went into the round with $14,000, bet nothing and won for the day.
Although flubs are rare with the cerebral contestants on "Jeopardy!," they're all but a daily occurrence on "The Family Feud."
In 2010 one contestant's honest, and perhaps accurate, answer caused "Family Feud"'s host Steve Harvey to collapse to his knees.
100 hundred men were asked to name a part of their body that's bigger now then at age 16.
Her answer? "Penis!"
