It feels like it was just yesterday that we saw Cookie beat down Anika in Season 1 of Fox's breakout show "Empire." But it looks like we'll be getting more Cookie, Lucious Lyon and Jamal this fall.

According to a tweet by the show's Twitter account, the second season of "Empire" will debut on September 23.

As Variety writes, the news of the second season isn't surprising as "the net announced its plans to bring back the ratings juggernaut in the fall and this is the first Wednesday of the television season."

"Empire" became a phenomenon earlier this year over its 12-episodes after its audience grew higher and higher each week "and finished with the highest average for any broadcast drama since ABC's 'Desperate Housewives' and 'Grey's Anatomy' in 2007-08, and the highest for any new drama since those shows bowed in the 2004-05 season," Variety writes.

Fox promised to keep up with the star-studded cast "Empire" had in Season 1, which included Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Hudson, Courtney Love, Cuba Gooding Jr., Snoop Dogg, Estelle, Rita Ora, Raven-Symone, Gladys Knight, Mary J. Blige, Juicy J, Patti LaBelle and more. It's been reported that in Season 2, Oprah, Common, Chris Rock, Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz will make appearances.

Season 2 of "Empire" will have 18 episodes this time around.
