Hip-hop producer Timbaland, who has worked with everyone from Justin Timberlake, Aalyiah, Missy Elliott to Bjork, is coming under fire this week after posting a controversial meme to his Facebook about Caitlyn Jenner.

As Gay Star News points out, the 43-year-old rapper, who most recently created the beats for the Fox musical drama "Empire," took to Facebook shortly after Vanity Fair released its July cover, revealing the first image of Caitlyn Jenner, and said he will continue to call Caitlyn "Bruce."

Timbaland posted a meme that reads, "His momma named him Bruce; Imma Call Him Bruce" and uses a picture from the 1988 film "Coming to America."

The producer's post received over 8,500 likes and nearly 1,600 shares. Nevertheless, he's been hit with a number of negative comments, as GSN notes.

"Timbaland I really used to like you. But this is just ignorant," one post reads.

"Your momma named you Timothy you dumb fuck but what do you go by? Stfu and get a life," someone else wrote.

"Disrespectful, and a true sign of how adults bully one another. Many adults wonder how they can keep kids from bullying one another, but don't realize that adults do it every day. Show some class and take this down," another Facebook user said.

Despite the flack, Timbaland has yet to remove the post and took to Twitter to comment on the situation.

"alot of you guys. this is what happen. i saw a meme post and repost it cause i seen the movie in the post and thought that part of the movie was one of the funniest parts. and somebody decide to take out clay which was said in the movie and put bruce. thats it," he wrote. "i didnt make the meme that was posted or said publicly what the meme said. Man i find it funny you can take a something reposted and say 'Timbaland said' in the headlines. But nevertheless that is the story but i doubt they will post this. Not interesting enough for them."

He later added: "i already stated i have nothing against him or anybody who have made that decision. i said that right after he did the interview. publicly."

Timbaland also slammed the media for the coverage he's been getting.

"today was a slow day for some media outlets i dont know if they had any other solutions," he tweeted after retweeting messages of support from fans.
