Courtney Barnes took over the world Thursday when a video of the green-haired car crash witness went viral, spawning quotes, memes and remixes that will last a lifetime on the Internet.
While the clip is brilliant and hilarious, thanks to Barnes pop of green hair, long green nails, unique eyebrows and non-stop delivery, Barnes is not laughing - the viral video star was arrested in Jackson, Miss., Thursday, according to news station WAPT.
Barnes reportedly went to the Ridgeland Police Department to pay off parking tickets but was detained after the authorities realized Barnes looked familiar - someone from a shoplifting surveillance video, according to the Clarion-Ledger.
According to the International Business Times, the owner of Swell-O-Phonic, Ron Chane, posted a picture of Barnes on Instagram five weeks ago, claiming the "So You Think You Can Dance" contestant shoplifted from the store.
"This thief is wanted for shoplifting. If you have any information on them please private message us," he wrote.
After Barnes' video went live, it didn't take long for Instagram users to ID the reality star.
"We want to stay away from the negative attention," Chane told WAPT. "Courtney has stolen from our store and made our customers and staff uncomfortable. We just want him to stay out of our store. I hope the story gets turned back to the injured officer who deserves the attention."
In a Facebook comment, Chane called Barnes' viral video "an act to get attention." to WLBT, adding, "He has no regard for anyone but himself ... You've got somebody hurt in a car wreck and this loser is trying to catch his 15 seconds -- enjoy it buddy -- you'll be locked up soon."
As the IB Times points out, Barnes, a Mississippi native, took to Instagram not long before the arrest and viral video, and talked about not being "perfect" and making "mistakes."
"I do keep God first and I want everybody to know that it will work out for the better," Barnes said. "But at the same time, let the negativity continues to come, because without negativity, we cannot do positivity."
Barnes has appeared on TV a number of times before being featured on the Fox reality series "SYTYD." But Barnes will most likely be known for giving one of the most captivating eye witness reports to a car crash in history, where the viral video star told reporters that the crash was so intense Barnes skipped out on going to Burger King.
Barnes, who has more than 43,000 Instagram followers, was released from custody and a court date for the shoplifting charge was scheduled for June 23.
