Seth MacFarlane Dodges Question About 'Family Guy' Jenner Joke

Shortly after Caitlyn Jenner revealed her identity on social media earlier this month, a 2009 clip from "Family Guy" went viral that showed character Stewie Griffin calling Jenner, who identified as Bruce at the time, a "beautiful Dutch woman" who gave birth to son Brody Jenner. Many wondered if the comment was just a throw away joke or something more, but Seth MacFarlen, the show's creator, shut down any explanation when the Huffington Post asked him about the clip in an interview for the upcoming film, "Ted 2."
HuffPo reports that when asked about the Jenner jabs, MacFarlane said he's "too savvy to comment on the issue to the media."
"Once the outrage industry shuts down, I will be happy to have an adult conversation about all of this stuff anytime anyone wants, but, even though I'm on the side of support, I just don't think there's any way to," he said. "You just got to play it safe because the climate is just too charged. Anything I say can and will be used against me."
He added: "My philosophy is live and let live, and if something makes someone happy, and they're able to do it - as long as it isn't hurting anybody - live and let live."
The conversation then shifted about political incorrectness in comedy.
"Nobody sets out to - at least I don't - nobody sets out to offend or shock for the sake of shocking. You set out to get laughs," MacFarlane said, adding he believes the public is mostly fine with his jokes and that the media can create "perceptive outrage."
"Ted 2," which MacFarlane directed, produced wrote and stars in, hits theaters on June 26. Watch the trailer, and the "Family Guy" clip, which has over 3 million views, below.
