Ghost Town
Ken Tasho READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Several years before both Madonna and Adam Lambert sang about ghost towns, there was a little horror movie of the same name. "Ghost Town" disappeared into oblivion and was never to be heard of again; that is, until Shout Factory dusted it off and now presents the 1988 cult film with its Blu-ray debut.
One of Empire Pictures last feature films, "Ghost Town" apparently was only shown in a handful of theaters in the late 80's. The movie's notoriety stems from its amalgam of genres: horror, western, science fiction, and zombies. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't but one thing is for sure: "Ghost Town" is one hell of a trip.
When a local deputy (Franc Luz) stumbles upon a seemingly abandoned town in search of a missing woman (Catherine Hickland), he comes face to face with the literal ghosts of the town's past. This ghost town has been trapped in a never-ending deadly cycle the last 100 years, and like the best "Twilight Zone" episodes, things are not what they seem.
"Ghost Town" ends in (what else?) a bloody showdown between the deputy and its undead inhabitants.
Shout Factory, once again using their Scream Factory trademark, offers no bonus features on "Ghost Town." It's just a treat to have this in a format other than VHS and along with the Blu-ray's reversible cover art (plus a low affordable cost), a purchase of Shout's latest retro release is a no-brainer.
