I, Madman

When a young woman's life gets taken over by the books she reads, the lines between reality and fiction become severely blurred. So goes the plot to Shout Factory's latest ode to old school horror films in the form of "I, Madman," a movie light years away from the type of "teenager dead movies" that the late Roger Ebert used to refer to.

The title of "I, Madman" is Scream Factory's newest Blu-ray and also the name of the murderous novel being enjoyed by Virginia (Jenny Wright). She becomes obsessed and consumed by the tale of a killer carrying a scalpel. When he suddenly appears in her life, Virginia isn't sure what's real and what isn't.

Veteran actor Clayton Rohner ("Just One of the Guys," "April Fool's Day") plays Virginia's cop love interest and special effects artist (plus Academy Award winner) Randall William Cook appears as the scalpel killer.

What sets "I, Madman" apart from the other slew of 1980s horror films of the time is its reliance on mood and suspense... you won't see scenes of spurting blood and dismembered body parts. This and numerous other items take part in "Ripped from the Pages," an elongated special feature about the making of "I, Madman." The director, screenwriter, actor Rohner, and actress Stephanie Hodge all get interviewed. An array of other special features complement Scream's high-definition nicely: audio commentaries, behind the scenes, and a still gallery are just some of them.
