PopUps: Nick Jonas Says He Has Gay Sex Scenes in Upcoming 'Kingdom' Season
EDGE null READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Nick Jonas is giving his gay fans a pleasant surprise: the pop star and actor revealed he will have some raunchy gay sex scenes on the upcoming season of his show "Kingdom," Perez Hilton reports.
Jonas plays Nate Kulina on "Kingdom," which airs on the DirectTV owned Audience Network, a mixed martial arts fighter who struggled with his sexuality. At the end of Season One, Jonas' character is kicked out of a gay bar and hooks up with another guy in an alley.
For Season Two, Jonas, 22, revealed to fans they can expect more gay sex scenes on "Kingdom."
"It's all happening. He has a lot of layers to him and he's trying to figure out exactly who he is," he said, according to Perez Hilton.
He added: "It's tough because he's living and working in a really macho world and I think he's just trying to figure out where he fits in in being who he is. So it is a struggle and I'm trying to tell the story as honestly as possible with as much depth as possible."
Jonas didn't get too much into details but revealed the sex scenes are "less about romance than it is about human needs."
The "Levels" singer opened up about his role last year after the "Kingdom" season finale.
"Everyone at 'Kingdom' was really transparent about the character and some of the things the character would go through. And in my prep work, I wanted to be aware so I could properly tell this story," he told BuzzFeed.
Jonas said his family was supportive of him playing a gay character.
"Their reaction was incredible," he said. "My family was really proud of me for getting this role and they were excited for me to tell this story -- especially because it's so important."
He also talked about how the role was important to him because of his LGBT fans.
"I've really been trying to make an effort to talk with my gay fan base and find unique opportunities to set up the next chapter of my life and my career with them in it," the singer said. "The attitude I take in the stories I want to share and my personal life and my view is that I think we're in a time where there's a new progression. For all people of all walks of life to accept all people ... I'd be thrilled if I'm any part of that."
Jonas is also set to appear on Fox's horror-comedy series "Scream Queens" this fall.
"Kingdom" airs Oct. 14 on DirectTV's Audience Network.
