Pitch Perfect 2
Ken Tasho READ TIME: 1 MIN.
I can't stress enough how needless a sequel to the refreshing hit "Pitch Perfect" is. The underdog story of young women in an a cappella group was catty yet endearing, and just filthy enough to warrant shocks and giggles. "Pitch Perfect 2," now out on a double Blu-ray/DVD package, has none of the spark that made Part One so enticing.
The Bellas are back for their senior year at Barden University and.... well, who cares about the plot, as there really isn't one. Fast forward past the dialogue and inane, sitcomy situations to the a cappella performances. This makes a viewing of "Pitch Perfect 2" all the more bearable. With the exception of a purposely ear-bleeding rendition by Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) of Pat Benatar's "We Belong," the musical numbers sound concert-worthy and pitch perfect on the digital soundtrack.
A whopping sixteen special features complements the "Pitch Perfect 2" Blu-ray:
"Never Before Seen Treblemakers Performance"
"The Making of the Riff-Off"
"Das Sound Machine Finale Breakdown"
"Snoop in the House"
"Green Bay Rap"
"Line-Aca-Rama"
"The World Championships of A Cappella"
"An Aca-Love Story: Bumper and Fat Amy"
"Elizabeth Bank's Directorial Debut"
"Legacy: Hailee Steinfeld"
"Aca-Camp"
"Residual Heat Internship"
"Deleted/Extended/Alternate Scenes"
"Gag Reel"
"Extended Musical Performances"
"The Bellas Are Back"
Even with the overwhelming amount of bonus material, skip this expensive Blu-ray and watch the latest episode of "The Voice" instead.
