Bram Stoker's Dracula

Ken Tasho READ TIME: 2 MIN.

I'm ashamed to admit that I was bored to tears by "Bram Stoker's Dracula" when I saw it in theaters in 1992. My spin on the film has changed thanks to a re-viewing of Francis Ford Coppola's lush adaptation of the famous novel of the bloodsucking vampire. And as part of Sony's Pictures Supreme Cinema Series, the film comes to vivid life in a brand new 4k restoration scan.

The appearance of the stars of the film (Anthony Hopkins, Gary Oldman, Keanu Reeve and Winona Ryder) is only the tip of the iceberg of an epic feature. One can witness the stunning visuals Coppola used, even though they are unfortunately outdated in 2015.

Unique is the presentation of Sony's Blu-ray, which comes in a clear case package and includes a 24-page book with rarely seen photos. And that's just the beginning as Sony pulls out all the stops to include over two hours of bonus material.

"Reflections in Blood" is a brand new sit-down interview with the man himself, Francis Ford Coppola. The not overly long interview lasts 30 minutes and doesn't get bogged down in specifics; Coppola explains his reasoning why he wanted the writer's name (Bram Stoker) above the film's title. For a more in-depth background on the making of the film, there's a vintage 1993 audio commentary by Coppola, his son Roman, and Greg Cannom.

Father and son Coppola do a separate interview segment called "Practical Magicians" and the two discuss the visual effects seen in "Bram Stoker's Dracula."

There are also deleted scenes to enjoy and director Coppola introduces "Dracula" with a brand new written monologue.
