PopUps: The Boy in the New Barbie Ad is the Best Thing You'll Watch Today
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Oh, my god! The young boy in a new Barbie commercial is undoubtedly the star of Monday.
The ad for Mattel's limited edition Moschino Barbie flips the scripts on gender roles as it features a young boy playing with the iconic doll.
"Moschino Barbie is so fierce!" the boy says in the commercial while adding a dope purse to Barbie's hand. Later on in the ad, he answers Moschino Barbie's phone, saying, "It's for you, Moschino Barbie" and gives a cute wink to the camera.
As Towleroad points out, the boy is a look-alike for Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott, who tweeted the doll sold out in less than hour -- despite its $150 price tag.
"I wanted to bring all of the Moschino elements to Barbie, as I had done the reverse by bringing all of the Barbie elements to Moschino for the spring 2015 collection," the designer said according to Towleroad. "The thing I love most about Barbie is that she is the ultimate muse, she's worn every style and design imaginable and at the same time she's had every possible profession you can dream of."
Gawker points out this may be the first time a boy may be (prominently) featured in a Barbie commercial.
The video's YouTube description reads:
Moschino and Barbie are thrilled to announce their partnership on the highly anticipated collector Moschino Barbie doll and accompanying exclusive eight-piece ready to wear Moschino collection, both available on http://www.moschino.com and http://www.net-a-porter.com from November 9, 2015!
