The Quay Brothers Collected Short Films
Ken Tasho READ TIME: 1 MIN.
The imaginative and child-like animated short films from identical twins The Quay Brothers can be enjoyed in one release. "The Quay Brothers -- Collected Short Films" brings together 15 of their films for the first time on Blu-ray. Most notable is the 1986 classic animated short "Street of Crocodiles."
There's a somewhat nightmarish underlying to these Quay Brothers films, the type of film you can't take your eyes off of. And in vivid high-definition, the detail and texture that goes into making a Quay Brothers short can be seen.
"Street of Crocodiles" made the Quays famous but there are numerous others included here, such as 1990s "The Comb" and more recently, "Unmistaken Hands" from 2013.
Christopher Nolan presents a brand new film on this collection, "Quay," a fan and filmmakers tribute to the style of a Quay film.
The Blu-ray has a 28-page booklet detailing each short, as well as an essay written by film critic Michael Atkinson. If that wasn't enough, the Quay Brothers themselves do audio commentaries for six of their films.
The fifteen films included are:
"The Cabinet of Jan Svankmajer"
"This Unnamable Little Broom"
"Street of Crocodiles"
"Rehearsals for Extinct Anatomies"
"Stille Nacht I, II, III, and IV"
"The Comb"
"Anamorphosis"
"In Absentia"
"The Phantom Museum"
"Maska"
"Through the Weeping Glass"
"Unmistaken Hands"
