Watch: Creepy Leaked Ted Cruz Campaign Ad Footage
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Political campaign ads traditionally feature a talent pool barely suitable for low-budget local commercials. GOP presidential hopeful Ted Cruz' TV campaign will hardly be an exception to this rule.
Sixteen one-hour-long videos were recently uncovered by Buzzfeed showing footage of what will likely be a campaign video for the anti-gay senator for Texas. By law, campaigns can't openly coordinate with Super PACs. So they shoot footage and upload the clips to a public account in the hopes that the video will be "found" and repurposed.
In the footage, that has been labeled "cringeworthy" by Gawker and "deeply painful to watch" by CNN, Cruz awkwardly hugs his parents while being coached by the camera crew. He also makes several attempts to say grace around the dinner table with his wife and children. Footage of him in a princess bed with his two young daughters is particularly creepy.
CNN notes that how the video clips will ultimately be used is up in the air.
