SunServe will continue its dedication to the transgender community by hosting a presentation by University of Miami's Dr. Christopher Salgado on phalloplasty surgery for transgender men at the Sunshine Cathedral in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday, Dec. 10.
The free event, located at 1480 SW 9th Ave, will include a presentation by the doctor on the complex surgery and more.
"He's going to go through everything that is required for the surgery," said Atticus Ranck, the Director of Transgender Services at SunServe in Wilton Manors. "He's also going to go over everything for top surgery."
According to Ranck, Salgado is one of the best phalloplasty surgeons in the country.
"A lot of transgender men shy away from surgery for various different reasons and this presentation will help expel those complications," said Ranck.
Phalloplasty surgery is a step a lot of transgender men take in order to obtain a penis.
The surgery can cost upwards of $6,700, according to TheTransGenderCenter.com.
"It is a many layered surgery," Ranck said. "Dr. Salgado will lay out everything a transgender man needs to undergo the surgery."
For Ranck, this is one of the first events he has organized since starting to work for SunServe earlier this year.
He offers various resources for the people of the transgender community and he assures he is here to help as many people as he can.
"I help the entire community. I'm here to help everyone," Ranck said.
This event comes on the heels of SunServe winning the 2015 SFGN "Best Place For Trans Folk" award.
"Any adult transgender person that needs something, I can either help them directly or refer them to someone who can," Ranck said.
Doors for the presentation open at 6 p.m. For more information or directions to the event visit SunServe.org or call 954-764-5150.
