Bolero/Ghosts Can't Do It Double Feature

Ken Tasho READ TIME: 2 MIN.

After viewing two back-to-back Bo Derek films, you may yell to the TV screen "Bo, put some clothes on for God's sakes!" Or maybe you'll revel in the wooden and awkward acting abilities in two of Derek's notoriously bad features from the 1980s.

"Bolero/Ghosts Can't Do It" further cements Shout Factory's ability to dig out cult classics from beyond and even though this is a bare bones Blu-ray, it should be added to one's retro collection. Just get ready to be wowed with boredom and a smattering of gratuitous female nudity.

Sometimes the nudity in both films isn't just the former Mrs. John Derek shedding her clothes. It's her male counterparts that do too; look no further than in 1984s' "Bolero." Bo's character's quest to shed her virginity is the thin plot in what's otherwise a soft-core porn film and the wildly out of place comedic moments warranted the film many Razzie awards back in the day. In fact, many herald "Bolero" to be the worst film of the 1980s decade.

The version presented here by Shout is the long out-of-print unrated version. In this edition, the scandalous sex scenes in "Bolero" are extended and it's been rumored that they weren't simulated.

"Ghosts Can't Do It" from 1989 was John Derek's last directorial effort. Bo gets naked as often as the silly script allows; the movie tells a tale of a widowed wife who constantly sees and hears her husband's (Anthony Quinn) ghost. It seems Bo's deceased hubbie wants his soul replaced and commands his alive and kicking wife to find the perfect man for it.

And yes, "Ghosts Can't Do It" was billed as a comedy even though the only thing funny about it are the inane plot devices which gives Bo a chance to strut around in her birthday suit.

The theatrical trailers for both films are the only extras to be found on Shout's double-feature Blu-ray.
