The Last Witch Hunter
Ken Tasho READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Vin Diesel does his best to act like Vin Diesel in a new Lionsgate Blu-ray release that generated little interest when released to theaters.
According to "The Last Witch Hunter," murderous witches have been living among us for centuries. In fact, they're living in the modern world in NYC and luckily we have the Diesel-man as our hero in the film's title.
Word has it that Vin was shooting the latest "Fast and Furious" film at the same time as "The Last Witch Hunter." On Blu-ray, this all comes out as our long-in-the-tooth star trudges his way through inevitable CGI effect after effect. Witches, wizards, and goblins never looked so good but that doesn't give this stinker of a movie any less than a run of the mill feel.
Even "The Last Witch Hunter's" respected co-stars Michael Caine and Elijah Wood get lost in the shuffle in the film. The same holds true on the Lionsgate Blu-ray, where on the 30-minute documentary "Crafting the Magic," Caine and Wood only appear briefly. The featurette focuses squarely on, surprise surprise, Vin Diesel. The filmmakers also readily admit that the Dungeons and Dragons game was homaged in "The Last Witch Hunter."
Elsewhere, only two scenes left on the cutting room floor make the "Deleted Scenes" feature. Four animated short films (running 2 minutes each) appear in "The Origins of Axe and Cross." But the oddest extra of them all called "Sizzle Reel: Paint It, Black" shows key scenes set to the backdrop of a haunting remake of the Rolling Stones classic hit.
