Freaks of Nature

Ken Tasho READ TIME: 1 MIN.

According to folklore, the freaks only come out at night. But in the case of "Freaks of Nature" they're always out and about in the small fictional town of Dillford, Ohio. And all of this gives Sony Pictures latest Blu-ray a cluster-fuck feeling that's both exhausting and confusing.

"Freaks of Nature" was dropped into a handful of theaters in October of 2015 and quickly vanished. Now out on Blu-ray comes this horror/comedy mix that doesn't quite gel despite its quite brilliant story idea.

That idea takes the notion of humans, zombies, and vampires all living in the same universe. As "Freaks of Nature" begins, an alien apocalypse has suddenly taken over the once quiet Dillford and the film reverts back in time to show how all of the freaks in the film came to fruition.

A lot of the action takes place at the local Dillford high school, as three teenagers are unwittingly thrown into the mix of an all-out war against humanity. But the insipid jokes fall flat, blood spills needlessly, and "Freaks of Nature" becomes yet another forgettable gross-out fest.

On Sony's Blu-ray, three special features are included:
Gag Reel
Deleted Scenes
Alternate Opening

There's a reason why "Freaks of Nature" disappeared from theaters so quickly. Inevitably the Blu-ray will likely suffer the same fate.
