The Vincent Price Collection III

A collection of the Master of Horror's lesser known works comes in a third volume for Shout Factory collectors.

"The Vincent Price Collection III" is an array of the late actor's more obscure films, five of them in all, and most of them aren't even part of the horror/terror genre. In fact, I learned something new about Mr. Price: he also starred in period pieces and historic dramas as well as the horrifying films for which he became famous.

"Master of the World" is one such example, an epic film where Price holds passengers aboard his Albatross prisoner in order to teach them lessons on ridding the world of war. It all sounds horrific but the movie presents itself as an adventure more in line with Disney films of the time. American International Pictures wanted to stray from their normal low-budget fare and "Master of the World" was a failed experiment.

"Tower of London" tells the tale of Richard the III of England and how he's haunted by the ghosts of those he murdered. Roger Corman directed this one, so you know that it's not meant to be taken seriously.

Both "Diary of a Madman" and "An Evening of Edgar Allen Poe" appear on the same disc, with the latter exactly as it sounds: Price reads aloud select stories of Poe in a straight-forward manner.

"Cry of the Banshee" included on disc 5 is the R-rated Director's Cut of the film instead of the PG-rated version released to theaters in 1970.

With the exception of "An Evening of Edgar Allen Poe," all films are presented in high-definition for the first time. Like the previous two installments from Scream Factory, each disc comes with its own extensive special features. Most feature multiple audio commentaries, trailers, interview segments, and photo galleries.

It's yet another impressive Shout Factory Blu-ray release for those that like to relive films from the past.
