Destroyer / Edge Of Sanity Double Feature

The late, great Anthony Perkins made some odd choices in the latter half of his movie career. Typecast because of his infamous serial killer Norman Bates role in "Psycho," the quirky actor became cast in low-budget horror fare in the late 80s and early 90s. Two of his lesser-known works come in a double-feature Blu-ray package from Scream Factory.

"Destroyer & Edge of Sanity" may not make one forget about how talented Perkins was as an actor. But his hammy and over-the-top performances in these late 80s shockers are well worth a watch for fans.

Perkins mugs for the camera in the long-lost 1988 slasher "Destroyer," also known as "Shadow of Death" in the opening credits. According to imdb.com, the late actor was a last-minute addition to the film after Roddy McDowall dropped out. Shout Factory takes the only surviving film elements and creates the best HD transfer they could, given that the film was never released in a home video format before.

"Destroyer," while mediocre at best, shows Perkins as a film director who barks out orders at his cast and offers up one of the best movie quotes ever: "It's the 1980s...nudity is required." In fact, this little-known film about a once thought dead serial killer references "Psycho" many times.

"Edge of Sanity" takes the concept of "Jekyll and Hyde" and turns it upside down. This lurid version has Perkins turning into an evil alter-ego who becomes sexually obsessed with women, and who also may just be Jack the Ripper. Shout presents the unrated edition of "Edge of Sanity," ripe with tons of nudity and sexual shenanigans...and because this was the 80s, lots of blood and gore.

Both films have theatrical trailers included as bonus material.
