Nick Jonas: I'm Am Not a 'Gay Cock Tease'

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Pop star Nick Jonas, who has been criticized of "gay-baiting," recently spoke with Queerty ahead of his upcoming new album "Last Year Was Complicated."

Jonas explained the inspiration for his LP, his decision to nix his concert with Demi Lovato in North Carolina (over its new anti-LGBT law), his position in the gay community and if he is a "gay cock tease."

"No, I don't think so," he told the website.

"I've been pretty clear with my heart and my nature of just wanting to be as supportive of my gay fans as they've been of me," Jonas continued. "So there's definitely not any cock teasing going on. [Laughs] If anything I hope I can be a real ally for the LGBT community and I'm thrilled to be in a spot where I feel like there's a lot of mutual love and respect."

Jonas, 23, has received some criticism for "gay-baiting" fans, after he performed in gay clubs to promote his last album. He's also known for taking on gay roles -- he plays a gay boxer in "Kingdom" and played a gay college student in the Fox horror-comedy "Scream Queens."

Queerty asked the singer if he plans on promoting "Last Year" and his tour with Demi in gay clubs.

"Sure! It's always a good time going and hanging out at the gay clubs. When Demi and I went in New York we had a lot of fun, so it could happen," he said.

He also opened up on why he decided to boycott North Carolina and said he and Demi "took into consideration the fact that this would be very disappointing for our fans that were looking forward to the show" but they needed to make a "firm statement."

"Sometimes you have to make these tough choices in order to hopefully see a change," the "Jealous" singer told Queerty. "We can only kind of humble ourselves and try to do our part, but hopefully we'll see some good out of this very unfortunate situation."

This isn't the first time Jonas' discussed "gay-baiting." Earlier this year, the singer told Complex:

"There's always going to be negativity toward anything that is a positive effort toward change. As a heterosexual male, [I am] open and comfortable about loving my fan base, gay or straight, because to me there is no difference, it is my fan base."

Jonas' remarks not long after James Franco commented on the same "gay-baiting" topic, admitting he is "a little gay." Read the story here.

"Last Year Was Complicated" drops June 10. Watch the music video for his late single below.
