Out Director Xavier Dolan Slams Cannes Critics Who Panned Film

There seemed to be a rift at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival: While the press and critics clearly didn't like out Canadian director Xavier Dolan's new film, "It's Only the End of the World," it nevertheless won the prestigious festival's Grand Prix award. In a new interview with the Guardian, Dolan, who was emotional when accepting the award last weekend, now has some sharp words for his haters.
The auteur said Cannes "seems to be sinking into" a "culture of hatred," blaming the rise of social media.
"If the guy who gives 'Creed' five stars and gives 'Fast and Furious 5' four-stars-and-a-half, is the guy who is saying [actress] Marion Cotillard is a bore in my movie, then it really is the end of the world," Dolan said. "And you wonder what the fuck he's doing here."
