Return of the Living Dead - Collector's Edition
Ken Tasho READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Brains!
That's what the uprising zombies want most in the comedy/horror spoof "The Return of the Living Dead," a hilarious romp from 1985. As presented by Shout Factory under their Scream Factory imprint, a Collector's Edition has an unprecedented 12 hours worth of special features, making a purchase for fans a no-brainer.
Besides all of the extras (many of which were culled from prior DVD and even Blu-ray releases), a new 2K scan was done to give "The Return of the Living Dead" its best and sharpest presentation possible.
In this unrelated film from the classic "Night of the Living Dead" franchise, the characters in Dan O'Bannon's "The Return of the Living Dead" claim the events from George Romero's 1969 shocker actually happened. When Freddy (the adorable Thom Matthews, "Friday the 13th Part 6") mistakenly releases gas from a top secret canister, it causes a zombie craze at a local cemetery.
Featuring gore, full frontal nudity (courtesy of Scream Queen actress Linnea Quigley), and laughs galore, "The Return of the Living Dead" is a total hoot.
Special features are too numerous to mention but five brand new ones span this 2-disc offering from Scream Factory. Two new audio commentaries can be enjoyed and the one with actor Matthews is the best of the bunch, explaining his love for the film as it helped to start his too-brief film career.
"The FX of the Living Dead," "Party Time: The Music of The Return of the Living Dead," and "Horror's Hallowed Grounds" are also new extras. They join a two-hour retrospective documentary (previously released) and numerous other featurettes on this must-have extensive Blu-ray release.
