PopUps: Ryan Reynolds Paid $10K to Wear a Bea Arthur Shirt in 'Deadpool'

Ryan Reynolds has really embraced his role as the sassy, smart alec superhero Deadpool. So much so that he used $10,000 of his own money to get the late Bea Arthur's likeness in the action film, Gizmodo reports.

In the comics, Deadpool's love for the "Golden Girls'" star is an ongoing joke and, according to the film's commentary, Reynolds wanted to stay true to the source material, forking over the big chunk of change so he could wear a Bea Arthur tank top in "Deadpool."

The $10 G's didn't go to Arthur's estate, however. The money was donated to an undisclosed charity. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the comedian's son Dan Saks said Reynolds personally paid him a visit while they were working on different projects at Fox. Saks said that because it was the actor himself who asked him, he and his brother were more inclined to OK their mother's image in "Deadpool."

"I was on 'Dharma & Greg' on Stage 21 at Fox when Ryan was on Stage 20 doing 'Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place,'" Saks told THR. "He was always a nice guy, and the fact that it was him gave it more weight with me and my brother, Matthew. We thought, 'Why not?'"

And just for good measure, here is a pic of "Golden Girls" star Betty White about to see "Deadpool."
