Man Throws Shot Glass Uses Anti-Gay Slur When Turned Down for Job at NYC Eatery
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
This is how not to get considered for a position should one open up in the future.
It was bad enough when a frustrated job seeker hurled a shot glass at the bar of Mexican restaurant El Centro in Manhattan's uber gay neighborhood Hell's Kitchen last week when the manager told him they weren't hiring. Then he used an anti-gay slur.
According to DNAInfo, on Sunday June 12, following the massacre in an Orlando gay nightclub that left 49 people dead, a man entered Mexican eatery El Centro looking for a job. When he was told they weren't hiring, he threw a shot glass at the restaurant's bar and said "Are you afraid someone is going to come in and kill the fags?"
The man then ran out and headed westbound on West 54th Street in the opposite direction from the NYPD Midtown North Precinct building that is situated a few hundred feet from the restaurant.
"I guess he was looking for a job, and we told him we weren't hiring," Billy, 36, who declined to give his last name to DNAInfo, said.
"We're a very gay friendly restaurant [and] neighborhood," Billy said.
The owners of El Centro also own several other eating and drinking establishments in the neighborhood including gay bars Barrage and Therapy.
