Starting August 1, the CW Network will broadcast the entire first season of "Supergirl" on Monday nights, with two episodes per week until the new season of "Supergirl" premieres on October 10.

When the fall season returns, the CBS-turned-CW series will welcome Lynda Carter, who brought Wonder Woman to life on the small screen, to a recurring role. Carter will play the President of the United States, appearing in episode three of Season Two.

Last season, producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg said that getting Carter to play the president in season two was their dream casting for the part. The duo noted that they first envisioned Carter's president for a role in season one, though her schedule did not work out.

"We're going to do it, we'll just do it next year," Kreisberg said, with co-showrunner Ali Adler saying it was "incredible" and a "true honor."

Carther played Moira Sullivan in a 2007 episode of the "Superman" prequel series "Smallville," as well as the superhero principal in the movie "Sky High."

"Supergirl" is an action-adventure drama based on the DC character Kara Zor-El, Superman's (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents' help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret.

Years later at 24 years old, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant. She works alongside her friend and IT technician Winn Schott and famous photographer James Olsen, who Grant just hired away from the Daily Planet to serve as her new art director.

But Kara's days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw, head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.

Based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, "Supergirl" is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti ("The Flash," "Arrow"), Ali Adler ("The New Normal," "Glee"), Andrew Kreisberg ("The Flash," "Arrow") and Sarah Schechter ("Arrow," "The Flash").
