Gotham - The Complete Second Season

Ken Tasho READ TIME: 1 MIN.

The sophomore season about the origin of the city where soon-to-be superhero Bruce Wayne grew up offers up an even darker vision.

"Gotham: The Complete Second Season" puts the focus more on the villains this time around, while expanding on the stories of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and young master Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz).

Jada Pinkett Smith's character saw her demise at the end of Season One of "Gotham" and now a new pack of villains are trying to run the corrupt city. Jim Gordon, madly in love with Leslie (Morena Baccarin), recruits Harvey Bullock (Donald Logue) to come back to the police force.

In the six episodes available for this review, a story arc concerns a new batch of criminal trying to overtake "Gotham." The evil Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) fights for the release of his kidnapped mother (Carol Kane). Meanwhile, there's a new Captain on the police force in the form of Michael Chiklis from "The Shield."

"Gotham: The Complete Second Season" presents even more blood and violence to the mix and each episode still looks like cinematic masterpieces.

Three interesting special features adorn Warner Brothers 4-disc Blu-ray set:

"Gotham 2015 Comic-Con Panel" - a behind-the-scenes look at Comic-Con where "Gotham" gets featured prominently.

"Gotham by Noir Light" - shows the making of the noir filming aspect of "Gotham:

"Alfred: Batman's Greatest Ally" - examines the relationship between Bruce Wayne and his butler Alfred.

Also on hand on Warner Brothers' very generous Blu-ray set are character featurettes and deleted scenes..
