The Strain - The Complete Second Season

Ken Tasho READ TIME: 2 MIN.

The Master becomes more terrifying and sadistic in "The Strain - The Complete Second Season". This 3-disc and 13 episode set comes ripe in time as the third season of the vampire tales has recently started on the FX Network.

It's a hard feat to improve upon a freshman season but that's just what season two of "The Strain" does. Ephraim (Corey Stoll) and Nora (Mia Maestro) continue to create a deadly weapon to destroy the horrific monsters that have taken over New York. Meanwhile, Ephraim's ex-wife has become a zombie which causes conflict with their son.

"The Strain" continues to be a scathing look at the class struggles in NYC. In fact, the cities of Manhattan and Brooklyn become somewhat characters in the show. For fans of the trilogy of novels by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, you won't be disappointed and season two takes most of its source material from book #2.

Watch for the return of "Lord of the Rings" actor Sean Astin who appears in some flashback sequences.

A series of seven special features complement the 3 discs on 20th Century Fox's Blu-ray:

"Deleted Scenes"

"Audio Commentary with Carlton Cuse on the 'Night Train' episode"

"Meet the Crew of the Strain" - this tongue-in-cheek look at the people who run the show behind-the-scenes features the actual actors from "The Strain"

"The White Room" - a spoof of The Master's deadly room

"Gag Reel" - at only 2 minutes, this featurette isn't worth a viewing

"Beyond the Page" - examines the differences between the novels and the series

"Sentient Strigoi" - takes a look at the vampires in "The Strain"
