Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates
Michael Cox READ TIME: 2 MIN.
If you're tired of watching beautiful couples commit their lives to one another while you remain sad and alone, or if you are already married and hate your partner, or if you just need the perfect wedding gift, then pick-up the Blu-ray of "Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates."
Zac Efron is at his comic best, and frequently half-naked in this surprisingly funny film, while Adam Devine (sometimes funnier and always hammier) leaves his clothes on and actually passes as his less-attractive brother. Anna Kendrick is as consistent and charming as ever in this wild comedy of manners, but Aubrey Plaza steals the show as her hard-partying, sexually adventurous and slightly board best friend. In the end, though, the theatrical release poster promises far more of Devine's bare chest and naked nipples than the movie actually delivers.
Brothers Mike (Adam DeVine) and Dave Stangle (Zac Efron) blow the roof off of every party they attend. They also break their dates' bones, burn down buildings and give the guest of honor a heart attack -- literally. For her lush, exclusive wedding in Hawaii their sister Jeanie (Sugar Lyn Beard) requests -- in order to reel in some of the destruction -- that the guys don't go stag. They must bring nice, respectable girls to keep them upright and in line.
Where the hell are they going to find women like that? They must go straight to the source of sophistication and decorum: Craigslist.
Fired from their waitressing job for going to work drunk and belligerently throwing things on the customers, Alice (Anna Kendrick) and Tatiana (Aubrey Plaza) would love a free vacation to Hawaii, if only they can pass themselves off as reputable.
Alice still has PTSD from her own wedding, when she was left at the altar. Still, she's able to rise above her own hurt and dedicate herself to Jeanie -- by giving the soon-to-be married woman ecstasy and ordering her a full body massage. Here comes the bride, a little bit early.
For those who have high expectations for their comedy, you'll be happy to know that Kumail Nanjiani (from "Silicon Valley") is in this movie in the role of the exotic masseur. And, in the process of marveling at his brilliant coding skills on HBO, if you ever fantasized about watching him fully naked and rubbing his butt against a woman who has just been run over by an ATV, here comes the audience.
With over 90 minutes of outrageous additional content, the special features on this Blu-ray are even more wildly inappropriate than Donald Trump. Never-before-seen extended and deleted scenes, director commentary, a gag reel, "Funny or Die" shorts, and even an alternate storyline involving an exploding luau pig will keep you laughing long after the movie is over.
