Watch: Secret Deodorant Tackles 'Bathroom Bills' in Stunning New Ad
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
A new ad from Secret deodorant is going viral this week thanks to its stunning take down of controversial "bathroom bills" that have been popping up around the country, like in North Carolina.
The clip shows a distressed trans woman named Dana using a public bathroom. She struggles inside the bathroom stall as other women chat outside. Text appears on the screen that reads, "Stress test #8260... Dana finds the courage to show there's no wrong way to be a woman."
The clip then shows Dana leaving the stall to join the other woman, who complement her dress.
Dana is played by queer artist Karis Wilde and spoke about filming the ad in an interview with Queerty.
"I always have moments of insecurity but I have conditioned myself to act unbothered," Wilde said after being asked if the ad resinates with her every day life. "While shooting, I allowed myself to feel vulnerable. It terrified me how much I've stored all those emotions; I almost cried in the middle of taping."
The "Bathroom Bill" in North Carolina, formally known as House Bill 2, prevents transgender people from using public facilities, like bathrooms, that correspond with their gender identity. The measure also prevents the state from creating LGBT protections.
