Lips, New York's ultimate drag show palace and restaurant is celebrating the holiday season with "Christmas Spectacular," a live drag show every Tuesday night during the month of December.
"The holidays are always our favorite time of year at Lips," says Yvonne Lame', co- founder of NYC's only true LaCage Drag Show. "We celebrate the joyous season in ways only we can, mixing naughty and nice with our unique brand of drag spice."
"Christmas Spectacular" at LIPS begins Tuesday, December 3rd at 7:30pm and runs every Tuesday thereafter, featuring Blackie O'Clause and her fabulous background singers, the Dragettes, singing holiday classics such as "Jingle Bells," "Joy to the World" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." "But not the way your mama sang them to you," warns Blackie O. "The Dragettes and I are kicking up our heels and serving a fierce Christmas Show to end all Christmas shows!"
From one small restaurant in the West Village, Lips has grown into a beloved nationwide chain with five locations in Atlanta, New York, Fort Lauderdale, San Diego and Chicago.
It all started when Yvonne Lame' was inspired to create a Vegas-style dinner theatre that looked like the inside of a drag queen's jewelry box. With the help of investors Michael Pacca, Paul Galluccio and Robert DeBenedictis, and shoe designer Brenda Starr, Lame' designed the original eatery with bejeweled mirrors, crystal chandeliers, luxurious fabrics, a glittery stage and VIP cabanas. It quickly became a place for wild and crazy people to celebrate anything: birthdays, bachelorette parties, divorces, graduations, promotions, holidays and more.
The emphasis is always on fun. The performers are incredibly talented yet down to earth queens who have a desire to please their customers. Many have gone on to become international superstars, including Violet Chachki, season seven winner of "RuPaul's Drag Race."
Lame' describes the future of Lips as unstoppable and exciting. A new Lips restaurant is scheduled to open in Chicago early spring 2017.
"We have a lot to celebrate this year," she reflects. "It's why 2016's Christmas Spectacular will be our most spectacular yet!"
