'Overrated,' 'Boring,' 'Stupid': A Brief History of Trump's Childish Twitter Insults
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
I'll take things that Donald Trump has called "over-rated" for $1,000, Alex.
It came as little surprise to anyone Monday morning when President-elect Donald Trump fired back with the word "over-rated" in a feeble attempt to slam multi-award-winning actress Meryl Streep for admonishing him for mocking a disabled reporter and his general history of bullying and xenophobic statements.
"Meryl Streep one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes." Trump wrote in a run-on three-part tweet. "She is a Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never 'mocked' a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him 'groveling' when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!"
It was a by-the-book move for the Tweeter-in-Chief whose history of name-calling has been well-documented.
"That's his go to insult," wrote Quora user Geoffrey Widdison in November when the PEOTUS called the Tony, Drama Desk, and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical "Hamilton" "overrated."
"If someone who opposes him isn't famous, he calls that person 'a loser.' If they're famous and moderately successful, he'll call them 'failing' or claim that their show is low-rated. If they're so obviously successful that he can't get away with calling them failing, he'll call them 'overrated.' It clearly has nothing to do with the actual quality of the show, it's just a pathetic attempt on his part to insult them."
In December, The New York Times published a list of "The 289 People, Places, and Things Donald Trump has Insulted on Twitter." Unsurprisingly, former rival Hillary Clinton led the pack with insults. Trump used 9,138 characters of Twitter's 140 character per tweet limit dedicated to e-slamming her. Saying that her "brainpower is highly overrated," he dubbed her "a highly overrated politician" on the social media platform.
Coming in second and third to Clinton in Trump's "overrated" insult arena are former rivals for the GOP presidential nomination, Senator Marco Rubio who received 2434 characters of insults and Senator Ted Cruz who received a whopping 3210.
Honorable mention goes to: Fox News host Megan Kelly whom Trump tweeted was "overrated," "the most overrated anchor" and "the most overrated person on TV," columnist Charles Krauthammer, whom Trump called "overrated," and long-time voice of the conservative movement George Will whom Trump said was "one of the most overrated political pundits."
Let's take a trip down Twittery Lane for a peek at some of the other targets of Trump's Twitter ire.
Also in the "overrated" category are:
It's surprising that Trump even watched Streep's speech at The Globes since he hasn't shown a like for awards shows. Here's a short list of what he's called "boring."
Apparently, sports bore Trump too.
Streep is in good company. Here is a partial list of celebs who have been in Trump's Twitter crossfire.
