Keeping Up With the Joneses
JC Alvarez READ TIME: 2 MIN.
When your life is as predictable as it is for Jeff and Karen Gaffney (Zach Galifianakas and Isla Fisher) it doesn't take much to spark their imaginations when their sexy new neighbors, the well-traveled and more interesting Joneses (Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot) move in next door, and appear to be more than they seem. Although Jeff is eager to become good buddies with Tim Jones (Hamm), Karen isn't so quick to fall under the allure of his exotically beautiful wife. The raven haired Natalie (Gadot) is a whip in the kitchen and really, really good at darts.
So what sinister secret are they hiding, with their late-night drives and backdoor accesses? In the comedy "Keeping Up with the Joneses" the suburbs become an explosive mine field when the Gaffneys bite off more than they can chew at the bake sale and discover that their new neighbors are international spies! But whose side are they on? Tim and Natalie may be experts with the artillery, but the Gaffneys have some fire power of their own - and it leads to some very funny moments.
Galifianakis and Hamm prove their comedic chemistry is combustible, and Isla Fisher is as deadpan funny as she is charming and gorgeous. But who knew that the fast rising sex symbol Gai Gadot, who will be flexing her muscles this year for the upcoming blockbusters "Wonder Woman" and "Justice League," can be as quick with her whit as she is with a swift kick. The couples make a believable bunch and are great fun to watch.
It's not all that difficult to keep up with this comedy, which is engaging enough to pass the time and has a cast in which it's worth investing some time. "Keeping Up with the Joneses" is easily digestible escapism and long enough to enjoy without taking itself so seriously that the comedic steps are lost among the fast-paced action.
The Blu-ray and DVD both come fully-loaded with some excellent special features including hilarious deleted scenes, and interviews spotlighting the film's action detailing the exciting car chases, the cast as international spies and bumbling comedic foils, and a look at the evolving bromance between its stars especially comedian Zach Galifianakis and Jon Hamm. An additional featurette explores the movie's location and how the Georgia burbs provided an excellent backdrop.
