Jughead Won't Be Asexual on 'Archie' TV Show 'Riverdale'

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

In early 2016, it was revealed the iconic, burger-hungry Jughead came out as asexual in the "Archie" comics during a casual conversation with Kevin Keller, an openly gay friend. But those hoping Jughead's sexuality would line up on "Riverdale," the dark and brooding new CW show based on the comics, may be disappointed.

Actor Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead on the show, spoke with celeb news site Hollywood Life about his role, revealing his character is apparently straight.

"Jughead will have romances with women ... and burgers," he said. "I come from an educational environment that really praises, as do I, the forms of representation that are otherwise lacking in our public media.

"But at the end of the day, I still had to do my job," the actor added.

Still, Sprouse, whom you may know from the Disney Channel's "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody," said he's "fighting....pretty heavily" for asexuality to come into play with Jughead at some point.

"If season one is one of those events or something like that needs to happen in season one for Jughead to eventually realize that kind of narrative, I'd love to play with that too," he told Hollywood Life.

"Riverdale" debuts on January 26 on the CW. Check out the trailer below.
