READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Oklahoma state Senator Ralph Shortey is under police investigation for allegedly being in a Super 8 Motel last Thursday with a teenage boy, the Oklahoman's NewsOk.com reports.

As part of the investigation, Moore Police are currently looking at text messages allegedly sent between Shortey, 35, and the underage teen boy, according to the newspaper. Authorities were notified when a relative of the boy became concerned.

"Cleveland County District Attorney Greg Mashburn confirmed Tuesday he has received an initial briefing about the incident from a Moore police investigator," NewsOk.com writes. "He said he is awaiting the investigator's final report before deciding whether any criminal charges are warranted."

Shortey, R-Oklahoma City, was questioned by police Monday, Mashburn added. On Tuesday, police did not release a report on the incident but did offer a statement when the newspaper pressed.

"On March 9 ... officers of the Moore Police Department were contacted in reference to a welfare check at a local hotel," Lt. Kyle Dudley told the Oklahoman. "Responding officers found a juvenile male in a hotel room which was also occupied by an adult male. The circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation and no additional information can be released at this time."

A motel employee said Shortey booked a room at the Super 8 for one night, according to NewsOK.com. He reportedly checked in March 8 and checked out March 9. The front-desk manager said "two adults [were] registered" and that police took photos of the room Thursday. An employee also told news station KOCO someone checked into the motel under the name "Ralph Allen Shorey" around 12:20 a.m. March 9. They added police soon showed up in response to a welfare check.

Police told KOCO officers found a juvenile male and an adult male in the same room but that the incident is under investigation.

No arrests have been made and no charges have been filed, officials told the news station.

Shortey served as Oklahoma's chair of President Donald Trump's campaign during the primary elections, Raw Story points out. On March 10, he posted a selfie on Facebook after having lunch with Donald Trump Jr.

The lawmaker was elected into office in 2010 and is best known for a bill he proposed that bans using fetuses in food. (Read more about that wild story via the LA Times.)

NewsOk.com writes Shortey is "married to his high school sweetheart since 2002." According to his Facebook, he's a father of two young daughters.
