READ TIME: 1 MIN.
A transgender woman from Miami was found shot to death Friday evening and police are currently searching for a suspect, Local 10 reports.
The death of 28-year-old Chay Reed marks the ninth reported trans woman of color murdered in 2017, LGBTQ Nation reports.
Authorities haven't offered many details about the attack and didn't say if Reed was the target of the shooting.
Friends and family who are mourning the loss of Reed are speaking out about her death.
"She was a light, always trying to make everyone around her happy," longtime friend Patina Peterson told Mic. "I don't even remember her getting into anything. I don't remember seeing her in an altercation out there with anybody in a bad way. I've never seen that."
Friends also remembered Reed, affectionately known as "Juicy," on social media.
"My heart is so broken ... we have lost such a wonderful person," Lizleime Fernandez wrote, according to Local 10.
Reed is the ninth trans woman of color to be killed this year. The others are: Mesha Caldwell (41), Jamie Lee Wounded Arrow (28), JoJo Striker (23), Jaqarrius Holland (18), Keke Collier (24), Chyna Gibson (31), Ciara McElveen (21) and Alphonza Watson (38).
