Watch: Neb. Student Finds Anti-Gay, Violent Message on Dorm Door

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

A college student at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. said he recently found a anti-gay and threatening message taped to his dorm room door, local news station WOWT 6 News reports.

Joseph Gray shared the note on social media, which reads: "Kill yourself. Leave our school. Gays are not welcome in Nebraska or Creighton!!!" The handwritten note also included a gay slur.

"I'm not the only gay kid on campus," Gray told WOWT 6 News. "I'm not the only kid that suffers from bullying on campus related to this."

Gary said no one was around when he discovered the hateful message pinned to his door. He added he brought the message to Creighton University officials, hoping they can find who is responsible for writing the message.

"I have to go on the street and worry about it every day," Gray said. "I shouldn't have to come back to where I sleep and worry about what I'm going to see."

WOWT 6 News reports the college officials are currently investigating the incident and sent a statement to students Friday.

"The incident is a breach of the Jesuit values we all share as the Creighton community, values which bind us all in the common mission of ensuring Creighton is a safe, respectful, inclusive place," the statement reportedly reads in part.

The university's president also called the note "hateful" and "discriminatory."

Gray said he wants the school to show more support for LGBTQ students and hopes his story will bring attention to fellow gay students.

Gary also shared a photo of the note to his Facebook. His post received more than 1,000 shares and several supportive comments.

"I truly can't understand someone thinking they help themselves with such hate and awful words falling from their faces!" one person wrote. "We all deserve to be here or there or any where we choose!"

Gary told WOWT 6 News he doesn't want to "ruin" the life of the person who wrote the note.

"It didn't ruin my life," he said. "All it did was frustrate me, and I'm a big kid, but it can ruin someone else's."
