Russian Media Smears French President-Elect with Gay Rumors
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Russian newspaper Komsomlska Pravda proved again that it is no friend to France's new President-elect Emmanuel Macron. On Monday, following Macron's landslide weekend victory, the tabloid re-ran a piece calling the new world leader a closeted psychopath who hates his country. The Moscow Times reports.
The Komsomlska Pravda piece attempted to reignite gay rumors about Macron by posting a photo of the president-elect head photoshopped on the body of a shirtless model with the title "coming out."
The Independent notes that the piece quoted a psychiatrist, who called Macron a "psychopath" who only loves himself and doesn't care for his country.
"Like all psychopaths, he believes in his higher purpose. Macron does not love France and will not fight for the French people," thearticleread.
This isn't the first attack by the Russian media aimed at casting aspersions on Macron's sexuality. The Independent also pointed to a previous report published by Russian government-controlled news agency Sputnik that claimed Macron was "secretly gay and living a double life" while backed by the "very wealthy gay lobby."
The anti-Macron tone of the Komsomlska Pravda piece which originally ran on May 4 leading up to France's election was hardly surprising to anyone following Russia's take on the French candidates. A liberal globalist, Macron was not favored by Moscow. Conversely, his populist opponent of the largely anti-LGBT National Front party was wooed by Russians, and even had a meeting with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow in March.
Macron, who won 65 percent of the vote to Le Pen's 35 percent, will be the youngest president in France's history.
