Westboro Baptist Church to Protest White House, Demands Trump Divorce Melania

"Religious freedom"strikes again.

As anti-gay Christian groups continue to use religion to pressure President Donald Trump into curtailing LBGT marriage rights, one notorious fringe group is calling the president's own marriage into question. They're demanding that he obey God's word and divorce Melania.

When President Trump wraps up his first foreign trip Saturday, he may find a very unwelcome welcoming committee waiting for him at the White House - and it's not a special prosecutor.

According to a news release sent out last week, members from the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) plan to picket the White House on May 28, the day that the president returns from his whirlwind tour of five countries in eight days. The purpose of their protest will be to demand that President Trump separate from his third and present wife, Melania.

The WBC statement in part reads:

"It is only reasonable for the President to recognize the absolute sovereignty of the God who created him in all matters concerning this nation. If he expects the blessings and benefits of a gracious and longsuffering (sic) Lord he must be obedient. That begins with separating himself from that woman who is not his wife, Malania (sic), in as public a way as he took her on as a so-called wife. Upon his filing for separate maintenance and moving her out of the "House" he should hold a press conference wherein he acknowledges his sin ("Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery" Exodus 20:14), announces his repentance.."

Once Trump separates from Melania, the WBC is requesting that he hold a press release to publicly and formally repent.

"Then, brother, drop the microphone," they wrote. "Amen! Just do it!"
