Boston Calling 2017: Day Two

Brian Schutter READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Day two of Boston Calling brought more sunshine and no rain, adding to everyone's overall excitement. Unfortunately Friday's rain left the Red and Green stage fields wet and muddy, but that didn't seem to bother anyone as crowds gathered and alternated between the two stages throughout the day and night. People took advantage of the open field at the festival entrance to either lay down and relax or play some bean bag toss or the giant "Connect Four" games. For the most part everyone had a great time and took advantage of the nice weather.

The concessions at Boston Calling with many great options was sadly a major bottleneck. The lines were so long that it was difficult to decipher if you were standing in the line you wanted to be in versus the next concession stand. To make matters worse the lines were slow, you could wait up to an hour just to get to the front. The beer and wine lines were much better but early on into the day they started to quickly run out of options. It seems as if they didn't fully account for the volume of people at Boston Calling, hopefully for Sunday things will go more smoothly.

The crowds were excited for Saturday's popular acts which seemed to be regulated mostly to the Red and Green stages, where Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, a folky/bluesy rock band who got their big break last year with their catchy "S.O.B." single performed. The crowd ate it up, singing and dancing along, as they closed the set with "S.O.B.". The xx played an excellent set which seemed to be an even mixture of songs from all three of their albums. They kept everyone happy with their dreamy echoed guitars back with electronic beats.

It was the perfect break right before Mumford and Son's the night's headline act. Mumford and Son's did not disappoint the crowd playing with the intensity that made them famous. A couple of notable songs of the set were "Dust Bowl Dance" and a cover of The Beatles "With A Little Help From My Friends".

Saturday was a great day at Boston Calling, the only wrinkle was the concession stands.
