What's 'Porm?': A State-by-State Look at Porn Search Misspellings

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

The results are in. When hastily typing in the word "porn" as an internet search term, a lot of people hit m instead of n.

Chalk it up to a case of probably typing with one hand, but people tend to make a lot of typos when searching for porn. And with 80 million visitors daily, mega adult video streaming website Pornhub has seen more than their fair share of poorly entered search requests.

According to an entry in Pornhub's Insight blog, the word "porn" itself is the one that most people seem to have trouble entering correctly on a keyboard. Showing a breakdown by state, the most common mistake among users in New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maryland, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma, Kansas, North Dakota, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, California and Oregon, was spelling "porn" with an m as "porm."

A large concentration of users also seemed to have trouble adequately defining girl-on-girl action. "Lesian", "Lesbiam" and "Lebsiam" were entered frequently in South Dakota, Nebraska, Louisiana and Texas for users looking for lesbian porn.

Japanese Hentai porn is also really big among American porn consumers. But few seem to be able to spell their favorite fetish. "Hentia" and "Henti" were common mistakes for users looking to check out asian kink.

Ironically, Mashable notes that following President Trump's most famous misspelling also showed up as a search term earlier this month. "Covfefe" was entered on Pornhub over 9,000 times.
